The State Leadership Conference (SLC) is the most anticipated event of the Ohio BPA year. The goal of the Workplace Skills Assessment Program is to provide student members the opportunity to demonstrate workplace skills achieved in their career-technical programs. Competitive events enable students to:IMG_9950

  • Demonstrate career-based competencies
  • Broaden knowledge, skills, and attitudes
  • Expand leadership and human relations skills
  • Demonstrate a competitive spirit
  • Receive recognition
  • Earn industry certification

Competition begins at the regional level. Students prepare for and compete in one or more of 60 events in five career pathways:

  •  Finance
  •  Business Administration
  •  Management Information Systems
  •  Digital Communication & Design
  •  Management, Marketing & Communication

Top regional qualifiers advance to State, and finally, those deemed the best of the best advance to the National Leadership Conference. Competition includes both individual and team events.

    1. Mershon will actually be directing the buses where to park. They have a very organized system that positions buses in a specific order. Then they will release schools in order so that buses can head directly out of town. This is a change from year’s past when schools just leave whenever they want to, it much more organized. Columbus PD will also be closing down one lane of traffic on High Street just for us and the quick dismissal of the buses.

        3. Studio Movie Grill is a great little movie theater within walking distance of the Hyatt. Waiting to see if we are receiving any special incentives but you can check out their website at:
        4. The Microsoft Store is sponsoring an Xbox gaming area at the Hyatt from 9 – 11:30pm. Six Xbox units will be set up and tournaments will be run by Microsoft staff.
        5. Other options for the 9-11:30 time at the Hyatt are caricature artists, a photo booth, and karaoke machine – these items are in process and not solidified at this point.
        6. ADVISORS – new for you this year an advisor’s area to gather and spend time together. Bring some cards or coloring books to make new and renew old friendships.

      Still working on organizations that will be available for the day of service activity.


    1. Only the competitor(s) and judges are allowed in the rooms during the actual competitive event. Therefore, guests and parents are encouraged to attend the Grand Awards Ceremony being held March 17, 2017 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in the Union Station Ballrooms at 10:30am.

      There is a new showcase format this year for many of our design events, if you have a competition in one of those events, guest/parents will be able to view the projects during the 1/2 hour showcase time.
